LET LOSE

We are our very own biggest critic, judge and competitor. We critic our own decision-makings, thoughts and actions, we judge ourselves of who we are and who we can never achieve to be. Hell yeah, we even do the judging of ourselves for others, putting ourselves in their shoes and looking at ourselves from their eyes, making assumptions as if we knew better of what they think about us. We then try to please and live up to our expectations of their expectations. As if all that isn’t enough, we further punish ourselves by competing against ourselves each and every moment. Maybe if I say this, do that, wear this, buy that, have this… I can be more/ I can be less __________________.

But why is it that we are constantly in a battle with ourselves? Is there even a finish line? For how long are we a work-in-progress? How do we come to see that we are well-cultivated? Are we so self-centered, that all we could care about is ourselves?

I know that many of us go through this from time to time, questioning the universe of our potentials and goals. And it isn’t a sin to want to be better and an improved self. And it is okay to want to be good to others and to create an image that you desire for yourself to the world. Β These things are what average people would do.

Still, wouldn’t it be much nicer if we could give ourselves a little more credit than doubts, to fill ourselves with positivity than sweating on the unnecessary little things? Perhaps a pat on the back on our mind reminding how far we’ve come? Wouldn’t it be much nicer if we could do more of this than fiddling with the voices in our heads?

Lights & Stars

Living in the city that’s become hard to spot stars, how I wish I was somewhere where I could look up & count the stars to sleep. But instead this is what I see, a birds-view of city lights. Seeing this, I feel even more blessed. And I remember, serenity is not what’s on the outside but what we feel in the inside.

Throwing a little throwback to the start of my deadline weeks (the end of semester many of us in universities/college can relate!).

Hope everyone else is having good days!

A Special Woman

I didn’t send her a present this second Christmas but she still is close to my heart in the sense that she touched my whole-being, a new experience that’ll last for lifetime.

A woman, I would have never crossed paths with if it wasn’t for my immersion trip to Australia. I realise after my trip that she was more than a host to me. I will always remember vividly having dinner together at 7 while watching Australian Idol, the season with Benji Madden. My favourite will always be the thick cabbage soup (name I can’t recall) with warm garlic bread that she used to bake for us. Simple as that, just like her. Then, we used to wash the dishes together, though she wouldn’t let me near the hot water in the basin and instead I would be helping her dry them with a white cloth. We would sit at the kitchen counter for hours sometimes, talking about our future plans, lives and our past. She was around the age of my mother or even a bit older but she became my friend. A true friend that cared about me and in a way, envied my youth, most probably because I was a reminiscent of her childhood. She would always get me in my feet and never let me miss a chance to go out and explore. It’s strange, even if we were from 2 parts of the world, we still had so much in common. “Good on ya!”, she would say time after time, which I still remember so distinctly.

10 weeks at her place and just like that, she became one of the woman that I truly admired and aspired to be. Genuine beauty from the inside and out that made the last day very emotional for the both of us. I don’t know what it is and it’s even harder to put it in words but she was special to me and I really hope my memories of her will still be as vivid when I have kids, just so I can tell them all about this special someone. Though, I’m quite certain I may never see her again, which saddens me. But more than anything, I am beyond glad I was able to meet a unique being at my time in here, which we call life.

*I had this sudden urge to write about this special woman I got to meet during my time in Australia in fear that my memories of her would fade away in time. This urge came in when I and my friends were talking about our Australian days the other day and I realize how fragile these memories get, no matter how significant to us, it is bounded to perish as time goes by, so by writing this little description of her, I hope to seal the memories of this special woman, so that maybe in 5 to 10 years, it is just as clear as it is today.

Life: Update

A (public) note to myself; #facts of life

Expect nobody and no one but YOURSELF wherever and whatever point in your life you’re in.

This is notΒ about dissing others, self-pity or having too much expectation of others. This is also not just a pessimistic view of people, in fact, it is innate in everyone and myself included, whether done intentionally or non- intentionally. Either way, damage is still done and like the saying, it is hard to fix a broken mirror and sometimes not even easily fixable. This year I’ve been going through quite a transition, experiencing horrific things after things and the people I keep close to are too transitioning. This is however, just natural, another fact of life; people change.

From all this, a lesson I have taken is that no matter what, it will only be you for yourself at the end of the road. Promises of always being there and whatnot will be broken promises, so never expect anyone to always be there because they will eventually change just as you will too and you have no one but yourself in the end. Β And that’s what’s special about life; the facts of life just like the saying: You are born alone and you will eventually die alone too.

πŸ™‚

So enjoy yourself, be you and always put yourself first!

Exploring Home finally…

For the last 2 years, I feel like I have been away for the Summer, which is true; getting myself involved in an exchange programme the first summer and being away for immersion last summer in Australia. For a long time, I haven’t been home (Hong Kong), while most people prefer to be somewhere else taking a tropical vacation, I was actually pretty excited to finally be home and what better time to explore the place than summer time!

Last Friday, me and my bestie took a casual trip to Sai Kung, which is almost 2 hours away from where I live by train. We had to take an additional 10 minute minibus ride since it was quite remote. Well, just like any other trip, the commuting is worth it when you finally reach the destination!

Here’s one of the first shots we took.

You can tell already that it was a very chill & relaxed place. There’s just something so calm about the water that instantly makes everything just flow.

If you are in Hong Kong, this place is called Sai Kung waterfront park. It is basically a long promenade overlooking the sea.

You could hop on different cruises that would take you to some hidden beaches and other activities like snorkelling and boating. For us, these had to wait for another day!

We decided to just stroll around the local town, which was in fact more like a neighbourhood. A very friendly one indeed!

By the way, if you love seafood, I think this would be a mini food heaven for you!

So first things first, we were starving after that long journey and what better way than to have a meaty burger to devour the hunger!

We went to this really cute restaurant/ cafe called “Jam” (btw, there were many unique little cafes that were so homely that you wouldn’t find at city centers with a really good eye for design & archecture that let off very bohemian & retro vibes!)

The lemonade was the perfect choice to refresh and it was sooo good! The milkshake I ordered was quite unique, it was “Apple & Cinnamon” flavored and it was quite a twist to regular milkshakes that I really enjoyed!

The food was very good and it literally took “Jam” into all of their dishes! Can you believe I had my fries with Jam? I asked for Ketchup but they didn’t have it! I think the patty was somehow seasoned with some Jam juice because it was very juicy with an interesting slight sweetness!

The chicken salad was excellent though! I really enjoyed the balance of sweetness & sour!

After lunch, we had a quick stroll and shopped at this vintage shop called “Vintage” (very original isn’t it!) It really was a true vintage shop where you could find almost anything and being a 90s kid, I was pretty excited to see some familiar things!

Just opposite to the vintage shop was this retro-looking cafe called “Five Coffee Company” and they served original coffees! Not the ones you find at starbucks but authentic coffee beans that you could smell from afar! They had other choices of drinks too, such as beers & juices and light snacks!

We went for an iced latte to beat the heat and it was the perfect atmosphere to ponder upon life and silly things!

Here’s my friend posing for a shot (though we really did discussed stuff & took some notes!) haha πŸ˜†

After a coffee break we decided to walk till the end of the promenade. The wind was blowing and there were many four-legged friends walking along too!

Seeing a lot of people on the water, literally walking as the water was quite shallow, we decided to try as well!

It was an amazing experience literally walking on water. It took us a while to reach the sand area in the middle of the sea.

Finally reached it! This was actually in the middle of the shallow sea. Then we made our way across to the beach side!

Made it to the mini beach!

You can still see people so far away in the water! That was how shallow the sea was!

Of course us, being girls, we had to take our routine selfies and pout lips are always a must! πŸ˜‚

Here’s a little outfit of the day I tried to take with the colourful kayaks!

I felt that my outfit was very coachella inspired! A very unintentional though! All that mattered was that it was comfy and very appropriate for the weather!

Oh by the way, we saw cows as well just chilling like any other day munching the grass!

And of course, I had to take this mandatory follow-me- around picture to complete my little adventure!

How is your summer so far? Hope you too are enjoying exploring new or even old places!

Do it for you :)

Hey Everyone? How are you enjoying June so far? As for me, I am caught up in work as I am working full-time for the Summer and it feels like I haven’t even been able to just relax in my own corner at home.

After quite a hectic week, I finally took the evening to simply relax in my own comfortable place; my bedroom. Sometimes, there are times when we feel so drenched from our daily routine, making us monotonous and bored about our own lives, so, it’s always good to take some time to do you, to be you and to rejuvenate you. This was one of those nights for me.

A hot bath is always a greater option but when you don’t have a bathtub, a soothing shower will do. One of the calmest place for me is the beach and I love the feel and sound of the waves, so today, I used the Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub from Lush to make my shower a bit more interesting! This was my first time using it and I love it so much already! The scrub is actually so smooth on the skin and melts as you rub it on. It extracts dead skin and keeps skin moisturized. The best part about it is that it smells exactly like the ocean or the beach, like you have just taken a dip in the water!

IMG_2971

Of course I had to burn my new favorite candle, Coconut Leaves, from the body shop. I have always been a coconut fan! I feel like there are two kinds of people, the first kind who cannot stand the scent of coconut (like my bestie) and the latter who are in love with the scent. I am one of those people that fits in the latter category!

IMG_2968

Well, I had to show my skin some love as well! So I had on this amazing face mask by a Korean brand, Beauty Friends. Korean brands usually produce one of the best masks in the market, so I wasn’t surprised when this mask left my skin feeling extra bright, smooth and soft! There is also something so soothing about aloe vera and I usually go for these green-packaged masks! My skin finally feels like it is breathing again!

IMG_2969

I do not usually drink hot tea or any sort of herbal drinks before bed, but sometimes I do like to drink something warm for my soul. This is a type of green-tea that is supposed to help with digestion and to detoxify the body. I always feel so much lighter after drinking this tea and it’s just nice to have something to sip on while you relax.

IMG_2983

So, there goes my alone-time, an evening well-spent relaxing, chilling and hearing my own thoughts in my comfiest place. Lastly, here’s a little message from the little corner of my wall to you, “Cherish every memory, Love every moment and Embrace every possibility.” I guess that’s what life is all about, to cherish, love and embrace and from my own experience, just to do it for you!  IMG_2978

A sort-of Gladiators

Hey everyone! Hope everyone is having a good month so far cuz do I have to mention that we are approaching its final days! Maybe it’s just me, but I get so emotional in a sort of weird way when it comes to the final few days of the month because I can’t seem to figure out where my days went!

So to keep one of my 2015 resolutions alive, I have decided to share a little outfit of the day (ootd) during my weekend in Macau, featuring my new gladiator sandals!

Nothing interesting when it comes to black, but I love how this all black outfit makes the gladiator sandals pop out a bit more! I have been seeing so many amazing gladitors everywhere and especially that are knee- high length and I am totally loving them!

The ones that I’m rocking are a little above the ankle length and they give pretty much a similar look compared to the knee-high length. A little less intimidating for those that prefer subtle and easier to style in my opinion! It’s also alot practical to just slide it on and if you have to be going in and out, then probably these ankle-length is more suitable!

Β (Pictures of knee-high length gladiator sandals retrieved from pinterest)

The knee-high length however, is the total bomb! I am loving how Vanessa Hudgens has styled them, so effortless and casual! I’m sure these knee-high lengths will make any outfit standout of the crowd!

So, here’s my take on the more modest length gladiator that I picked up from Forever 21! It’s sort-of there… But maybe I’ll gather my confidence to wear the real-deal (knee-high length) once I get more wear out of these that I currently own!

Which one would you totally rock? Ankle-length, knee-high length? Let me know your thoughts!

Macau: Weekend Getaway

For a very long time, well at least I think, I have been craving to get away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong life but it just wasn’t possible with all the assignment deadlines as a student and preparations to be done for the summer course at work! As soon as I submitted my last assignment, I had to celebrate and so last weekend, I planned a mini weekend getaway with my friend to Macau! My short vacay lasted for 2 days (16-18 May, 2015) but I felt like it was one of the most satisfying getaway even though Macau is pretty much similar to HK (in terms of the hustle and bustle in downtown).

The Beach view from our hotel. Not the best but still very relaxing πŸ™‚

We checked in Saturday night at this hotel near the beach called the Pousada De Coloane. It lies a bit remote from the city area and we didn’t realize this until we got there, which was about a 40 minute ride form the ferry terminal.  Unexpectedly, it was quite worth it hearing the waves hitting the shore early in the morning! So, I would say it’s a great location if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere in a city like Macau! To be honest, from my experience, it actually balanced the day, from shopping and visiting hectic busy areas to winding down and having a piece of mind at the end of the day!

This was our room! Very cozy and vintage-looking.

I only visited the Macau Tower and the Venetian the first time, so of course I had to visit other main attractions, like the Galaxy, City of Dreams and the Ruins of St. Paul. On the night we arrived, we visited the City of Dreams and partied all night at one of Macau’s top Clubs, called Cubic. It had such a concert sort-of- vibe with its huge stage and the DJ’s hitting their jam on the stage. We literally danced all night and thank god, we decided to ditch our heels before we left the hotel! So yes, we were partying in our flats and vans, but hey we still got free shots and drinks at the bar! πŸ˜€

The next day, we could hardly get up and the weather was not cooperating too! It was drizzling all afternoon and we were pretty much stuck indoors for a good 2 hours during lunch at the hotel.

Then, late afternoon, we headed to Venetian to explore the casinos and shop around. It was my first time in a casino and it’s not like I even know how things work, so obviously I was only comfortable with pressing as few buttons as possible and to try my luck! So we played the Big Wheel, where we just had to insert a few dollars, choose a number and hope for the best!

Since we couldn’t take any pictures in the casino, we took one above it.

Then we tried searching for Bath & Body Works, since we don’t have it in Hong Kong and it literally took us like an hour! It was all worth it when we got to smell all those yummy candles (what I was looking forward to most!). It got a bit overwhelming after a while and I ended up getting just 1 candle that I initially smelled and loveeeed! Coconut Leaves! Two of my favorite thing in a jar! JUST AN EXPLOSION OF WONDERFULNESS! Btw, I also went a little nuts over Lush, especially their bath bombs.

After Venetian, we hopped on the shuttle and got a free ride to the Galaxy! We bought little charms from pandora that signified Macau to add onto our bracelets and bangles. The fountain in one of the entrance was humongous and the fountain show was even more amazing! They also had a peacock dance performance and they were just as amazing! After that, it was Casino time to try our luck again at the Galaxy! I’ll admit, it was a short-term gain! πŸ˜›

Finally, we made our way to see the very famous Ruins of St. Paul (because it wouldn’t be a Macau vacay without it!). We had to walk through Senado Square, which is another popular venue infused with history with its wave-patterned mosaic stones that were built by the Portuguese and modern culture with various shopping attractions and cuisines! Indeed, the architecture has been preserved so well that it seems like you have travelled back in centuries. As dreamy as the walk is to St. Paul, there is nothing like seeing the mesmerizing facade that stands so grand. Personally, I think it is even more spectacular at night and there is something about it that is so calming as you climb through the steps and make your way to it. I am very glad that I got to visit it and probably is the highlight of my trip like many tourists!

A vacay isn’t a vacay without a little spending, so we popped into Forever 21 that was next to the church and got some goodies for ourselves! After that, we were exhausted to the max and hungry (hangry even!) and we decided to get Indian food to fulfill our cravings! We went to this small resto called Indian Spice and the food was divine! Finally gathering up our energy, we headed back to our hotel to get some rest and spent the rest of the night in hot bubble baths, movies and chit-chats over wine!

Though a short trip, it did its magic by making my weekend a lot more interesting than usual! It made me miss last summer and the year before where I spent a few months away, like really away from home! Having no plans this summer, I am more excited about making spontaneous trips here and there, even if it is in this tiny place called Hong Kong! I figured I should aim to visit each and every corner of my own hometown while I am home for summer.

Before us

Β

Sometimes all we want to do is get away, away from where we are, to somewhere foreign, so we always look far ahead, but maybe… sometimes we need not see what’s on the otherside… But maybe what’s in before us.Β

Β Maybe sometimes we just forget to look ahead and maybe forget the beauty that we once fled away to.Β I guess sometimes we just forget to admire the beauty that’s right before our eyes πŸ’›Β

Β

When Boredom Strikes…

I can’t remember what was it I did back then when boredom strike-d … But now with the evolution of smart phones and especially (Thank god!…or not!) the front camera… #selfie it is when boredom strikes… Not just taking pretty faces, but having fun making ridiculously ugly faces… & realizing WOW, that really is a bad angle.

Or maybe it’s just me?

Btw, back to short hair & the shortest I’ve had and oh, bangs as well in the longest time! This hairstyle really takes me back to my Secondary 3/4 years!
